Since I quit my internship another thing that I have had more time to do is to visit different parts of the city that I haven’t been to you. Not necessarily top of the list tourist things, because a lot of those things we did during our first month here, but stuff like seeing different parks, neighborhoods, wandering around the historic downtown area more etc.
One thing a few of the American’s and I did one day was go to a park on the outskirts of the city, Vila Lobos, for a picnic. It was definitely a trek to get there- bus, metro, and train, but it was definitely worth the grass, the quiet, and an open sky- not surrounded by tall buildings everywhere you turn.
Another day, I went with another group of exchange students (USA, Columbia, Brazil, Slovakia, Chile) to 2 different buildings downtown with free overlooks of the city. It was a great combination to be able spend the afternoon getting to act very tourist-y but at the same time knowing exactly where you are and feeling comfortable with the language/surroundings etc.
