Braziliant Adventures

Centro Cultural Angra, the student residence where I’m living, organizes a service project to help poor Brazilian students improve in reading and writing. This semester they decided to also start English classes, taught by myself and 4 other CIEE girls (Casey, Jessica, Stephanie, Michele) for the kids who don’t need as much help in Portuguese. We have about 7 kids from 7-11 years old, and teach them basic things like the Alphabet, numbers, colors etc. It’s been a really great way to interact with Brazilians of a different socio-economic background, as well as to see first-hand the results of the weak public education system here. We only go once a week, but it is impressive to see that just by giving them a little extra attention and showing that you care about their success, they improve so much.
