Beco do Batman

Definitely one of the cooler days so far (at least for taking pictures?). After class we went to a place in one of the more “bohemian” neighborhoods in São Paulo called “Beco do Batman” or “Batman’s Alley”. It’s an alley completely covered in graffiti that started out as a place for expression during the Military Dictatorship, and has remained so since. What I think is the coolest part is that there is a “democratic
system” to determine who gets to paint over old art. When someone has a new idea, all the artists get together and  vote on whether or not they can paint over something that was already done, and where. And for artists who have died, they put “em memoria” on their art and no one can paint over it.
